Designed for mid to senior-level human resources professionals, this online eProgram will be a deep dive into project management skills and tactics, covering risk, expectations, documentation and more. The eProgram will take place in four 1-hour sessions (5:00-6:00pm) in the evening, perfect for after your workday. Here is a tentative overview of each session:
1) Tuesday, Feb 20: Project Management –Building a Business Case/Cost Benefit Analysis
Learn how to create and present a cost benefit analysis (CBA) for HR Projects. A CBA is a tool used when evaluating the costs vs. benefits in an important business proposal, showing the return on investment (ROI) and more.
2) Thursday, Feb 22: Planning the Project: Scope and Responsibilities
We will cover important tactics including documenting specific project goals, deliverables, tasks, costs and deadlines. Discover how to create a scope statement that explains the boundaries of the project.
• Socialize the responsibilities for each team member and set up procedures for how completed work will be verified and approved.
• Learn the 9 knowledge areas PMs are accountable for - applicable to projects, programs and operations.
3) Tuesday, Feb 27: Project Risk--Managing Expectations & Project Costs
Project risk is an unforeseen event or activity that can cause impact the project's progress, result or outcome in a positive or negative way. Learn how to create a risk assessment which includes risk identification, probability, impact and response planning. Learn techniques for creating project budgets, tracking budgets and monitoring cost performance using earned value techniques. Create communications plan to keep stakeholders aware of cost of variance and problems.
4) Wednesday, Feb 28: Project Communication, Documentation & Close Out Responsibilities
Since project managers spend 80-90 percent of their time communicating, we will learn how to build, execute and manage a communication plan. Establish a closeout strategy that will maximize the value of the project experience to the organization by capturing best practices, budget metrics and schedule variance. Capture lessons learned and historical data from the project to utilize for future projects.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Sharawn Connors, SPHR, provides vital leadership expertise for the Human Resources group at Flex, where she is Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion and HR Business Partner to Human Resources. Flex LTD (Flextronics International) is a multinational technology manufacturer.
As a Bay Area native, Sharawn graduated from California State University, Hayward, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in History. After graduation, Sharawn recognized within herself a propensity for leadership, as well as an interest in the field of human resources; subsequently, she enrolled in the masters program at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, earning a Masters in Human Resources Management. Further enhancing her education in the arenas of human resources and project management, Sharawn earned two prestigious certifications—Project Management Professional (PMP) in 2005, and Senior Professional in Human Resources (PHR) in 2012.
Prior to her work with Flex, Sharawn served as a project manager in several professional fields, including information technology, project management offices, and human resources.
Sharawn has a passion for teaching; outside the office, she teaches HR and Project Management curriculum as a visiting professor.
When Sharawn isn’t working on one of her many endeavors, she enjoys travel and spending time with her family, friends and fiancé.
