SUMMARY

Internships are often casual ventures that have the potential to run afoul of employment law, with HR sometimes not even being aware that a manager has brought on an intern. Common understanding of internships is not often based on the actual law in the state of California.

This webinar session will inform you, as an HR professional, about the requirements for a proper internship, the potential ramifications for misclassifying someone as an unpaid intern, and how to educate your organizations about best practices and implement a process for vetting internships. Educating HR professionals to be aware of this issue and the potential risks will enable them to mitigate against potential lawsuits against their organizations.

We will create a process for properly vetting internships so that HR is aware of all interns at its organization and to ensure compliance with the law. You will understand the risks to educate your organization and achieve buy-in from senior leaders. You’ll also feel more confident in ensuring, once an internship is approved, that interns are treated as required by law and per organization's internal policies.

We will leave understanding:
> How to properly vet a potential internship and identify red flags.

Unique obligations relating to interns who are under 18.

How to put a internship process in place successfully.

Successfully working with minors at your workplace.

Legal obligations owed to interns.
