Creating a narrative and establishing arguments that stick in the brains of listeners is a key business challenge, especially for HR professionals. In this interactive storytelling workshop, we will learn techniques for crafting your own personal experiences into powerful stories you can use as a tool in professional settings. We will work on ways to punch up your anecdotes so that you’re able to tell and retell them differently depending on the audience, your goals and the point you’re trying to get across. Expect to work on practical skills for crafting arguments and framing situations in ways that produce a maximum effect.
We will run through simple exercises you can do on your own to begin to build your own “personal story playbook.” You will walk away knowing the elements of a good story, how these elements combine to make messages more memorable, and how to craft your own personal experiences into stories they can use to inspire and lead.
Together, we will:
1) Learn how to use your personal experiences to identify important and compelling moments from your life that illustrate important points OR serve as evidence for your arguments.
2) Practice customizing your stories to grab the attention of different audiences.
3) As an individual or group, practice using “Yes, and” collaborative techniques to co-create a compelling and creative story that catches a listener’s attention and drives home your point.
In addition to storytelling exercises, there will be a debrief discussion at the conclusion of the session that allows for processing of the experience, sharing of key takeaways and brainstorming additional applications for the improv “tools” and skills.
