Summary

As functional and matrixed teams become more common, the power to influence emerges as a most important strategic management skill. In a matrixed team, you have the responsibility to accomplish your goals, but not always the authority. Thus, expressing your needs in a way that works, or is well received, to those around you proves critical to getting the answers you want.

Identify successful methods to get buy-in from others in your organization, and leave equipped with numerous new ideas and strategies to influence colleagues, supervisors and staff. Learn to:


1. Discover new ways to "people-read" in order to understand others better
2. Develop more self-awareness about your natural communication style
3. Identify valuable strategies for adapting to others to facilitate better working relationships
4. Create an action plan that can be immediately and successfully implemented to influence decision makers

 

 

About the Presenter

Jill McGillen, owner of NEXT TURN, worked in a senior manager role for 15 years at a Fortune 500 company. During this period she learned the importance of a manager’s influence and teamwork.  Now as owner of NEXT TURN, it is her mission to help managers discover and utilize new strengths to build productive and satisfied workforces.  NEXT TURNS’s training and consulting organization works in the areas of Effective Leadership and Team-Building.  From 2003-2008 Ms. McGillen wrote a work advice column, Ask Jill, for many Bay Area newspapers including the Oakland Tribune. The column now appears online and helps readers solve work issues. Clients include Stanford University, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc., East Bay Municipal District, Theravance Inc. and many others.

 

Cancellations received less than seven calendar days from the program date are not refundable. If cancellation within seven days of the program is unavoidable, a credit for a future event will be granted, minus a $75 administration fee ($15 for regional meetings). Credits must be used within one year of issue. A substitute attendee is allowed at the applicable NCHRA member/non-member rate in lieu of credit. Separate cancellation policies apply for the HR West Conference and Certification Preparation Courses.
