Self-Limiting Behaviors – A New Tool in Your Employee Development Toolkit

SUMMARY
Companies want employees to own their careers. Employees are seeking more support and guidance from their employers on how to grow professionally. Many companies encourage employees to develop themselves in both the "what" (functional, technical) arena as well as the "how" arena (behavioral, often in alignment with company values). The "how" piece is typically much more difficult for employees and managers to grasp.

Organizations can serve their employees by introducing them to the idea of self-limiting behaviors and helping employees identify where they get in their own way. As employees become more self-aware and begin to address their own self-limiting behaviors, their team, department, and organization also benefit.

In this session, we will roll up our sleeves and experience first-hand some tangible, practical and innovative content that can be used in your own organization to positively impact employee career development, employee effectiveness and productivity, and ultimately employee engagement.

You will:

1. Learn about the employee development philosophy of “deliberately developmental organizations.”

2. Learn about self-limiting behaviors, a new employee development concept that improves employee performance, effectiveness, and ultimately engagement.

3. Brainstorm about the implications and potential organizational impact of self-limiting behaviors in the organization(s) they support.
