Meet Our Certification Preparation Course Facilitators

Beverly N. Dance, MBA, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, PHRca, CCP, CEBS
 is a human resources professional with significant HR management and independent consulting experience. She is the founder and principal of Dance Associates, Human Resources Consulting. Beverly facilitates for the Next Concept HR Association where she is a Certified Facilitator and Certified Mentor. She has facilitating more than 100 certification classes, plus presented at the HR West conference three times and at a SHRM Annual conference. Beverly joined the Society for Human Resources Management faculty in 2007 and facilitates SHRM’s certification preparation and compensation classes.

Beverly’s background includes facilitation, compensation, executive coaching, anti-harassment training, employee handbooks, strategic management, job analysis and  evaluations, job descriptions, mergers and acquisitions, organizational design, performance management, benefits, employee relations, union interactions, work force planning, plus training development and delivery.


Maricela Disch, SHRM-SCP, SPHR is a Human Resources professional with over 20 years’ experience in diverse settings, including Education, Health Care, Hospitality, Property Management, Manufacturing, Electronics, and Distribution Logistics. Maricela has worked in the public and private sectors, and in non-profit organizations. She has led all HR functions as a solo HR department, as a member of the Corporate HR management team, as the department head, as a regional manager and as the HRBP. Maricela brings training experience, business acumen and HR expertise applicable to complex, fast-paced environments and multi-cultural, global, and multi-site organizations. Maricela is an active member of the San Mateo and Santa Clara chapters of the Next Concept HR Association (NCHRA). She holds degrees in Management and Economics from Anahuac University, Mexico City, and CA State University Dominguez Hills.

Karen Jovin's career traverses a wide range of sectors and industries. She began her career at Simmons & Ungar, an Immigration Law Firm in SF, where she submitted all claims to USCIS and mastered culturally competent customer service. As a state employee, she developed an off-site office providing a full suite of Employment Services to personnel impacted by the military base closure in Alameda. It was here that she discovered her love for adult learning and change management. Next came a move to Pac Bell Mobile Services (start off company to what is now AT&T Mobile), where she conducted training in technology, sales, customer service (in both English/Spanish) and billing. She was promoted to Associate Director over the Business Sector of Training Design. 

Karen completed her MA in Management in 2001.  In 2003 she decided to broaden her HR experience by becoming both SPHR certified as a coach through New Ventures West.  Karen currently provides leadership training, organizational change management and group and individual coaching services to 3,200 employees who range from direct service providers, IT, engineers and public health case workers. Additionally, for insourcingHR, LLC she supports the internal HR Department at Kikkoman Sales, USA on a full suite of HR services.

Karen’s areas of expertise include: Training Design and Delivery, Investigations, Performance Plans and Negotiating Terminations, Mediation, Change Initiatives, Employee Handbooks, SMART Goal setting, Pay for Performance Strategies, Succession Planning, Communication Strategies and Techniques with a particular interest in coaching newly promoted Supervisors.

  Jane Lock serves as the Vice President of Human Resources for Constellation, bringing almost 20 years of human resources experience in primarily the corporate/legal environment. Coached during her early days as an HR Director by one of the senior partners at Littler Mendelson, a nationally-recognized employment law firm devoted to representing management in every aspect of labor and employment law, Jane places a significant emphasis on compliance with state and federal law.

During her tenure at Genworth Financial Wealth Management, Jane provided expertise to support staff development, implemented HR operational strategy and developed competency models for its sales and operations groups within the organization, and implemented a succession planning initiative for executive personnel. As a business owner, Jane has partnered with organizations across various industries such as sporting goods, manufacturing, high-tech, telecommunications, hospitality, medicine, veterinary practice, legal, financial, recruiting services, rehabilitation centers, property management, and media businesses. Holding both the Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) and the SHRM Senior Certificated Professional certifications (SHRM-SCP), Jane was also certified as a Workplace Investigator through the Institute of Workplace Investigations and completed her BA (HUMR) at Golden Gate University. Jane is a native of London, England.


JD (Jeff) Sanders, SPHR holds his Master’s in Education, as well as his SHRM-SCP and SPHR-CA certifications. He is the founder of J.D. Sanders Consulting and has over 20 years of HR  experience, including senior HR positions at Silicon Graphics, Irwin Home Equity and Lam Research.

His dedication and passion for HR is exemplified by his volunteer service as a past member of the NCHRA Governing Board, the Santa Clara Regional Board and the Certification Advisory Committee.  J.D. is one of our most highly rated, knowledgeable certification instructors.

  Jan Wilson, MA, SPHR, PHRca has over 30 years of experience and leadership in human resources, including being past President and CFO of the Northern California Human Resources Council (now Next Concept HR Association - NCHRA); board member multiple terms and chaired multiple committees; long-term member of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce Jobs Forum. Additionally, Jan:

·         Founder of Vital Assets LLC, HR and business management consulting on optimizing productivity through best business management practices, strategy, and effective application of business technology software. 

·         Within HR specialty served as director of HR, staffing, compensation and benefits, both domestically and internationally.

·         Primary HR experience in high tech, biotech and banking; plus business management consulting to small to medium companies in a variety of industries. 

·         Senior adjunct professor of HR and business management in Ageno School of Business at Golden Gate University

·         Certified teacher and mentor teacher of PHR/SPHR and GPHR certification preparation courses through NCHRA, having taught certification for over 20 years.

·         BA in Psychology from University of California at Berkeley; MA in Counseling from California State University at Sonoma; management certificate from American Electronics Association/Santa Clara University Management Development Program. She has completed various graduate business programs such as economics, financial management and advanced statistics from California State University at San Francisco and Golden Gate University.

·         SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources), PHR-CA, (former) SHRM-SCP, GPHR

Steven Yee, SPHR, SHRM-SCP 
has over 19 years of experience in HR consulting, training, operations, and leadership, and is currently founder and principal of GravitateTraining geared for micro to mid-sized enterprises. Whether for major organizations, start-ups, or start-up operations within major organizations such as Kaiser Permanente and Monster Worldwide, Steven’s direct contributions and strategic guidance have helped diverse businesses nationwide do better business and helped individuals become better people. While holding a degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, he is recognized as well by the Human Resource Certification Institute as a certified Senior Professional in HR (SPHR) and by the Society for Human Resource Management as a Senior Certified Professional (SCP).
